PRODUCTION NOTES:
As an actor in Hollywood I find myself looking for the next audition or opportunity. But in recent years the
ability to create your own work has become more of an option. On The Handyman I collaborated with
some very talented friends in the business and made a fun and sweet short film that I’m very proud of. It
has been 10 years since JC Calciano and I have worked together as a director and actor. We have been
looking for the right project to do so and we feel with The Handyman, we found it.
How did the idea come to you? I had been wanting to create another character that lives in the romcom
world. It’s such fun genre to play in. I had batted around a few ideas, trying to find the right balance
between the romance and the comedy. After a few drafts of that pendulum swinging from one side to the
other I finally feel I found the right tone with The Handyman.
What is the significance of the story? In some ways it harkens back to the idea that sometimes we
think that we are the only ones thinking a certain way. We are all human and go through the same
feelings and emotions. This story puts a comedy spin on how we all are the same, especially when it
comes to falling in love.
Finding your co-star? Derek Ocampo had been on our radar for little while. He has a cameo in Steam
Room Stories: The Movie and JC suggested I meet with him to see if we clicked. Well, a meeting over
coffee later and I found Derek to be the perfect blend of super hunky, sweet and sincere (what I’d look for
in a partner - if I wasn’t married already). As an actor, you learn to read people. While sitting over coffee
with Derek, I could tell he was just a sweet, loving guy - I thought, “what a perfect co-star he’d make for
the movie”!
Any fun ‘hooks’? I am partnering up with my friend JC Calciano. I met JC on the film, Is It Just
Me?, that I had the lead role in. Since then we have been co-producing Steam Room Stories the web
series for 9 years now and just wrapped on Steam Room Stories: The Movie. By creating this short film, it
will be reconnecting us again as director and actor 10 years after our first project together.
